In Pandle there are a default set of categories (or chart of accounts) which include the basic categories a business will need. These default categories cannot be edited or deleted in Pandle, but you can add new categories if you need to.

Add a new category to Pandle

Select 'Accounting' from the menu navigation, and then click 'Categories'.

Click the 'Add' icon on the Categories screen.

Select 'New Category'.

Enter the category name in the pop-up entry box.

Click the dropdown menu icon, and select the category type from the list, or search for it in the menu search bar.

Enter a unique category code.

Click the dropdown menu icon, and select a default tax code for the category. If you decide not to assign a tax code, Pandle will use the setting 'No Default Value'.

Click 'Save Category' to create the new category, or click 'Close' to return to the Categories screen without making any changes.

Edit categories in Pandle

To prevent accidental errors it's not possible to edit default categories in Pandle, though you can make some changes to non-core categories.

Click the 'Edit' icon next to the category name that you would like to change.

Amend the category information as required. Default categories will be greyed out so that you cannot make changes.

Mark categories as inactive

To help make your bookkeeping less confusing you can choose to hide categories by marking them as inactive. Click the 'Edit' icon next to the category name that you would like to change.

Check the 'Inactive?' box to mark a category as inactive.

Delete categories

To prevent accidental errors it's not possible to delete default categories in Pandle, though you can remove categories which you create yourself.

Click the 'Delete' icon next to the category name that you would like to remove.

Click 'OK' to confirm, or click 'Cancel' to return to the Categories screen without making any changes.
